Smoke Free Indy Offers Insight on Possible Cigarette Purchasing Age Increase to 21

According to the CDC every day in the U.S. 2,000 youth under the age of 18 try their first cigarette, and in 2018 nearly 1 in 5 high school students report using e-cigarettes in the last 30 days. Raising the age of purchasing tobacco products to 21 could help decrease youth tobacco initiation.

Raise It for Health Releases New Plan to Invest Cigarette Tax Revenue

On November 15, 2018, in observance of Great American Smokeout Day, Raise It for Health held a press conference event at the Indiana Statehouse in coordination with 14 local actions, to renew the call to Indiana lawmakers to raise the state cigarette tax by $2 per-pack and invest in Hoosier health in the next state budget. Bryan Hannon, Chair of Raise It For Health, says “If we can be a top ten state for business, we can be a top ten state for health and 2019 is the year lawmakers can help us get there with one powerful move—raising the state cigarette tax by $2 and investing the increased revenue—$360 million in the first year alone—in health”. Follow Tobacco Free Indiana on Facebook to read and learn more.

Breaking News: Juul Labs Suspends Sales of Most E-Cigarette Flavors and Social Media Accounts

With juul and e-cigarette use in youth rising at shocking rates, the FDA moves forward with the plan to ban flavored e-cigarettes in convenience stores and gas stations. Juul Labs also plans to shut down Facebook and Instagram accounts that were used to promote the product. Click here to read more.
